Researchers evaluated dihydronicotinamide riboside (NRH), a novel NAD+ precursor, in multiple mammalian cell models. Results demonstrated that NRH rapidly increased intracellular NAD+ concentrations by approximately 2.5 to 10 times within one hour of administration.

Compared with traditional NAD+ precursors such as nicotinamide riboside (NR) and nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN), NRH consistently produced greater NAD+ elevation at equivalent concentrations. Increased NAD+ availability also improved cellular redox balance and enhanced resistance to oxidative and genotoxic stress.

The study further identified a previously uncharacterized pathway involved in NRH metabolism, suggesting alternative mechanisms for cellular NAD+ biosynthesis.
